Just across the Corpus Christi Bay lies the small fishing town of Port Aransas, Texas. With a population of about 3400, Port A, as it’s known by the locals, is the only established town on Mustang Island, and it covers about 5 miles of the 18-mile-long barrier island along the Gulf of Mexico. Those 18 miles offer beautiful beach homes, condos and beaches galore and a town with shops, boutiques, restaurants, marinas and more.

The climate is subtropical with an average annual temperature of 71.5° and a prevailing wind from the southeast, making Port A the ideal home for outdoor pursuits, which are plentiful in this coastal town.

For families and higher education, the Port Aransas School District is one of the top school districts in the state, educating from elementary through high school with an enrollment of just over 500 students. Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi and Del Mar College both offer exceptional higher education, not to mention, Port Aransas also boasts the University of Texas Marine Science Institute for graduate studies in marine science and serves as a centre for the study of Texas’s bays, estuaries, the Gulf of Mexico and the world’s oceans. It is a fascinating resource as well for the locals, with a new aquarium opening soon.
